CREATE's own Renee Bayer, Dr. Consuelo Morales, and Dr. Hilda Makori are featured in today's MSU Today news blog, along with Dr. David Lowry from Plant Biology, who collaborated with the Health in Our Hands team to create a comic book to be used as a high school science textbook! The comic itself was written by Danny Jackson, formerly from MSU, and who is now a doctoral student at Arizona State University. Dr. Idit Adler, who had the original idea for the comic, was formerly a research associate at CREATE for STEM and is now a science education researcher at Tel Aviv University. Louie Chin, the illustrator, is an artist based in New York City.
Health in Our Hands is a research project funded by the National Institutes of Health Science Partnership Award and is in it's third round of funding. The goal of this work is to help all students see that they can be scientists. The project connects science with social justice and equity, delivering the message that science can be a career path for any student even though they may never have considered it, or been able to see themselves as someone who could 'do' science.
Many thanks to MSU Today, and especially to Matt Davenport, for the wonderful story about the evolution of Health in Our Hands, published today.
